Semaglutide is currently FDA approved in patients with either a BMI ≥ 30 or patients with a BMI ≥ 27 who have a weight related condition including, but not limited to, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, or diabetes. This will assist with healthy weight loss and appetite suppression.
Semaglutide is a human-based glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist prescribed as an adjunct to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults with an initial body mass index (BMI) that is considered above a healthy range.
Semaglutide works by mimicking the action of GLP1 which is a naturally occurring hormone produced in the small intestine that helps regulate blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin secretion. Semaglutide also slows down gastric emptying, which may decrease appetite, make you feel full faster, and decrease hunger and food cravings.
