What Does the Treatment Do?

How Does It Work?
Wound repair consists of three main phases, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling:
- Phase 1 (inflammation): The micro-injuries created using the skin pen triggers your body to activate your immune system to respond to the site of injury. This activation is targeted to disinfect, remove debris, and increase blood flow to the site that will then create healing and new tissue.
- Phase 2 (proliferation): Granulation tissue is developed at the site of injury to rebuild the wound. There will be temporary collagen and elastin to help rebuild the extracellular matrix.
- Phase 3 (remodeling): During this phase of healing the temporary collagen (type III) developed during phase 2 is replaced with a stronger collagen (type 1). Type 1 collagen has the ability to contract to tighten the skin.
