Tiny to Small Body Veins
Sclerotherapy is a procedure that uses a prescription medication called Asclera to treat two types of veins in the lower extremities:
-Uncomplicated spider veins or telangiectasias (<1mm in diameter)
-Uncomplicated reticular veins (1-3mm in diameter) on the lower extremities.
Sclerotherapy is not used on vessels that are greater than 3mm in diameter or on flesh colored bulging veins
After determining if you are a good candidate for sclerotherapy a medication called Asclera is injected into the spider veins or reticular veins to decrease their appearance.
Research concluded on average, 87% of patients were satisfied or very satisfied with their Asclera® treatment. Patients were significantly more satisfied with Asclera® than with either sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS) or placebo (p<0.0001).
Asclera (polidocanol) is a sclerosing agent that is injected directly into the veins causing localized damage to the endothelium (inner lining) of the blood vessels. A platelet response at the site causing a dense network of platelets, and fibrin to occlude the vein and eventually replaced the vein with healthy tissue and the veins fade from view. While using a Christie Vein Viewer to ensure the needle and sclerosing agent make it into the right vein and the Medication is administered effectively.
The Nd:YAG laser is the gold standard technology for non-invasive treatment of face and leg veins. The Nd:YAG laser can also be used to address facial wrinkles and acne scars although best results frequently are achieved when the laser is used in combination with other treatments.
Laser Spider Vein Treatments are best for:
-Facial Veins & Small Patches of Redness
-Uncomplicated spider veins or telangiectasias (<1mm in diameter)
-Uncomplicated reticular veins (1-3mm in diameter) on the lower extremities.
Laser Vein Treatments are not used on vessels that are greater than 3mm in diameter or on flesh colored bulging veins.
The laser beam passes through the skin and penetrates the targeted vessels, causing the blood inside the vessel to coagulate and the vessel walls to collapse and seal. These vessels are then dissolved within the body between treatment intervals. The number of treatments necessary to achieve the desired results varies, but 3+ treatments, at 6-8 week intervals may be needed.
A 1064 nm wavelength that is almost completely transparent to the skin and is highly absorbed in the blood. The 1064 nm wavelength energy of the Nd:YAG laser targets the hemoglobin of red blood cells within the treated blood vessels. The heat generated in the red blood cell leads to micro-clotting and causes irritation of the inner lining of the blood vessel, leading to partial or complete collapse of the blood vessel, which then degenerates.
