Laser vein removal uses a laser to reduce the appearance of vascular lesions and spider veins less than 1 mm in diameter. Vein treatment is ideal for patients of all skin tones (Fitzpatrick I-VI) however; patients of deeper skin tones (Fitzpatrick V &VI) are a bit more of a risk for adverse reactions such as PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation). Treatment of skin type V & VI should use lower levels of laser energy. Treatments are done in a series usually 3 to 6 sessions to start. Treatments are recommended 8 weeks apart on the legs and if treating facial veins 4 weeks apart. Patients may need additional treatments to reach their desired result and maintenance treatments to maintain their result. Before treatment may be initiated each new patient must be cleared, through a routine physical exam, by our in-house physician and or nurse practitioner. Once the patient has been cleared they are ready to begin treatment that same day. During a laser vein removal treatment, the designated technician will start off by asking the patient a short series of questions just confirming that they are able to begin treatment that day or if they are a returning patient, making sure that it is time for them to receive another treatment. Be sure the area has been closely shaved as well as clean from any lotions or creams. Once the technician has chosen the settings specific to the patient they will then have the patient lie on the treatment table and the technician will begin applying the cooling ultrasound gel to the designated areas. The gel assists in keeping the patient comfortable for the duration of the treatment. The technician will then begin treating the affected areas. After the treatment the technician will apply a soothing after-care gel or cream. The patients will then be sure to follow the post-care instructions which includes wearing compression garments for 3-5 days (or as directed) after the session.
